Job Description

About the job

Cannon Ventures is a Houston based venture platform and entrepreneurial resource focused on helping startups and small businesses scale through capital access, hands on operational support, and strategic guidance. Through our Investor Network and Venture Studio Suite, we work with founders, operators, and investors building the next generation of high growth companies across the U.S.

As on chain data matures into a credible and differentiated alpha source, Cannon Ventures is building out a dedicated data and signals capability to support proprietary trading and investment decision making across digital asset markets.

About the Role

We are looking for an analytically rigorous, crypto native On Chain Data Scientist to extract trading signals and actionable intelligence from blockchain data across major networks.

This role sits at the intersection of data engineering, financial analysis, and crypto market research. You will be responsible for building and maintaining signal pipelines, identifying behavioral patterns across wallets and protocols, and translating raw on-chain activity into structured investment and trading insights.

You do not just pull data. You understand what it means in the context of markets and you can turn that understanding into repeatable, measurable edge.

What You’ll Do

  • Design, build, and maintain on chain data pipelines and signal extraction frameworks across Ethereum, Solana, and major L2s
  • Identify and quantify predictive signals from wallet flows, exchange inflows/outflows, liquidity movements, protocol interactions, and smart money behavior
  • Build and backtest signal models for use by the trading and portfolio teams
  • Develop and maintain dashboards and monitoring tools for real-time market intelligence
  • Research and integrate third party data sources (Nansen, Dune, Glassnode, Arkham, Kaiko, Chainlink, etc.) to enrich internal models
  • Produce regular research outputs clear, well structured reports on signal performance, alpha decay, and market regime shifts
  • Collaborate closely with traders and portfolio managers to translate data insights into executable strategies
  • Continuously improve data infrastructure for reliability, latency, and analytical coverage

What We’re Looking For

  • 2–4 years of experience in data science, quantitative research, or analytics  with direct exposure to crypto or on-chain data
  • Hands-on experience querying and analyzing blockchain data (Dune Analytics, The Graph, raw node data, or similar)
  • Strong Python skills (pandas, numpy, sklearn, web3.py or equivalent)
  • Proficiency in SQL and experience working with large, messy, time-series datasets
  • Solid understanding of crypto market structure: exchange mechanics, liquidity dynamics, DeFi protocols, and on-chain behavior patterns
  • Experience building and evaluating predictive models or signals in a financial context
  • Ability to communicate findings clearly to non-technical stakeholders (traders, PMs, investors)
  • Familiarity with smart contract architecture and transaction-level data interpretation is a strong plus
  • Degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Economics, or equivalent practical experience

Compensation & Benefits

  • Base salary: $100,000 – $155,000/year based on experience and demonstrated output
  • Performance bonus tied to signal quality, adoption by trading team, and measurable portfolio impact
  • 100% Remote work from anywhere in the United States
  • Flexible working hours with async-first collaboration
  • Access to Cannon Ventures’ investor and operator network meaningful for research sourcing and career development
  • Annual learning & development budget (data subscriptions, analytics tools, research platforms, conferences)
  • Budget for premium data access (Nansen, Glassnode, Kaiko, or equivalent evaluated per role)
  • Health insurance contribution (contractor-equivalent stipend)
  • Paid U.S. federal holidays + flexible PTO
  • Annual company retreats and ecosystem events
